Coquette Inspired Birthday

For my 33rd birthday I decided I wanted to go big and have birthday party! I jumped into planning and enjoyed asking myself the questions I typically ask my clients. After planning out the event, I got a message asking if I could do a last minute baby shower the day of my party. Torn, I decided to cancel my party and jump into the baby shower. I think choices like this are all too common when you are starting your business, and I’m not saying that you should always cancel your birthday party, date night, or family event; but I am saying, do what feels best in your heart and don’t put too much pressure on yourself when deciding. Ultimately, I was excited at the opportunity to grow my business and create more content for my Intsagram. The bay shower turned out beautifully and I will always be happy with my choice.

I couldn’t cancel all of my birthday celebrations though! Something about turning 33, the double 3’s, was exciting to me. Once the baby shower was over I decided to come up with a photoshoot backdrop to have a solo at home shoot. Taking the time to celebrate myself, honor my beauty and reflect on my growth from the year through photos was a chance I didn’t want to pass up. I decided to go with a pink coquette theme, with rose golds and blacks. Something about this theme feels so cute and quaint.

I achieved this look using Kalisan Mirror Chrome Pink in 3 different sizes, using mostly 12in (blown up to 8 in), a few 18in and then clusters of 5in (blown up 2 in). I made clusters of 6, attaching them together across the metal frame using 260 balloons. My goal was to have some of the metal exposed, and the rest of the balloons spilling down in a water like effect. Don’t be afraid to detach balloons and move them around if it isn’t looking right! You are truly an artist in this moment manipulating the balloons into shapes that look best to you and your client. I then used glue dots to attach the 1in black bows to the balloons. Take your time with this, placing bows evenly apart, checking all angles as you place more. Finally I my backdrop frame to drape black fabric to give the perfect clean slate.

The only things left to do are pick the perfect outfit, do you hair and makeup, light a birthday candle and have fun with your tripod. Lean into the discomfort of taking pictures of yourself if this isnt your norm! Learn your angles and lighting that make you feel your best. Don’t be afraid to take a video or two either! They are fun to look back on at the end of the year to celebrate your growth and transformation.
